The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal law that guarantees equal opportunities for people who have disabilities. This includes those in wheelchairs, blind or visually impaired individuals, and more – it’s important to note that not all disabilities are visible!
There are general requirements relating to accessibility of buildings/facilities as well as items within them; however, there can also be challenges onsite if these measures aren’t taken into account during construction processes by businesses that need ADA compliance
Below we list several common violations along wth some helpful tips about how you can avoid them yourself:
What you need to know
- The building is not well accessible for the people with disabilities. There's an inaccessible entrance and exit from it which makes things difficult for those who need assistance in order to enter or leave safely during their visit
- There's no parking access or a space where you can drop off passengers.
- Your ramp is too short. This means that the height of your driveway and/or building are incorrect, which can lead to other problems such as parking lot hazards or accessibility issues for those with disabilities
- Ensure the building entrance is easy to enter and exit, with correct ramp slopes for accessibility.
